Mike Bushell on Grid at Silverstone with Cobra Sport

The Cobra Sport team enjoyed a fantastic day behind the scenes at the penultimate BTCC race of the year at Silverstone. No fewer than 25 Cobra Sport staff and guests were welcomed by the AmDTuning.com team and were able to experience the highs and lows of the day in the garage, as the two drivers battled through the intense competition that the British Touring Car Championships offers.

With the Silverstone BTCC event a sell out there was a real buzz around the circuit and in the AmdTuning.com garage. Mike Bushell in the Cobra Sport sponsored AmDTuning.com Ford Focus displayed strong pace throughout the weekend building on progress made throughout this season. The team had made a number of radical changes to the set up of the Focus in the run up to the weekend with the intention of improving the handling to become more competitive. The changes certainly had the desired effect with Mike showing excellent pace throughout free practice and qualifying on the Saturday securing an excellent 15th place on the grid for race one on Sunday and was the quickest rookie in the field. The Cobra Sport team enjoyed being out on the grid at Silverstone before the first race of the day soaking up the atmosphere as the cars lined up. After a good start, hopes for a strong points finish in the opening race were deflated after the Focus was knocked sideways at Brooklands and lost places, but Mike recovered well and managed to keep amongst the pack. The improved set up of the car enabled Mike to battle back up through the field setting a fastest lap time only four-tenths of a second off the pace to secure 15th place and the final points finish.

Quotes:Mike Bushell - #21 Ford Focus:

“I'm really pleased with the way the weekend has panned out and especially the final race as we were able to keep in touch with the main front-runners ahead. Race day started quite well and to come back from the contact early on to finish inside the points was encouraging, although it was harder in race two as we struggled for pace on the soft tyre. Race three was really good though and we held our own against some strong opposition to finish 13th.“When the car has settled down in the races, we've been able to show some really strong pace this weekend but we just lack that last little bit in qualifying. However, the progress we're made has been good and I think we are in a good place heading for Brands Hatch.

Shaun Hollamby “ team principal:

“Overall it's been a positive weekend for us as a team and I think both drivers have done a good job. Mike's pace across race day has been encouraging and to pick up two points finishes, and be first rookie home in race three, is really pleasing. The changes we made to the Focus coming into the weekend have clearly worked as he felt more comfortable in the car and hopefully he can build on this weekend on Finals Day in a few weeks.
